Because everyone deserves a helping hand.

It’s no doubt that this year has been difficult for all of us. That’s why we’re answering your concerns by putting money toward what matters most: you.

As soon as our campuses closed in 2020, IGNITE committed $250,000 to the Humber Support Our Students (SOS) fund and other bursaries, helping students negatively affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic receive financial support needed. A year later, as we’re through this second lockdown, we know students need additional support. That’s why in January 2021, after seeing the SOS Fund’s overwhelming response, IGNITE has contributed another $250,000 to disperse even more bursaries to students in need.

Applications are now open and you could be eligible to receive up to $500. Check out below for eligibility requirements and how to apply:

Eligibility requirements

The SOS Fund is available to domestic and international students enrolled in full-time studies at Humber College who are facing financial hardship due to job loss or increased living and educational costs, like internet access or equipment.

Students who demonstrate additional financial need, such as covering the basic cost of living or studying costs, could be considered for top-up funds.

How do I apply?

For Humber students, the application can found on MyHumber as SOS Bursary.

To apply, please complete the SOS Bursary Application on MyHumber. From there, you will be asked to provide a statement outlining how your current situation is affecting your finances. You will also need to provide an estimate of your income, savings, and expenses for your study period

Applications for assistance will be considered based on the following criteria:

  1. Financial hardship due to job loss;
  2. Increased living and educational costs such as access to wifi/data, computer equipment, and/or change of residence etc.
  3. Have not received a bursary for Winter 2021

What else should I know?

If your application is approved, $500 will be awarded as a tuition bursary and credited to your student account towards your Winter 2021 tuition. The bursary will go toward the tuition balance first and subsequent credit would then be paid out to you.

UofGH students can apply for the $500 bursary through the IGNITE Emergency Financial Relief fund. Applications can be found on the Student Financial Services Forms page and must be completed and emailed to [email protected]

You do not have to go through this alone. IGNITE is committed to supporting you during this challenging time and will continue to provide assistance to those who need it.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact [email protected].
