It’s always a good idea to prepare ahead of time for registration. It’s one way to avoid rushing to build your schedule while in the registration portal.

That’s why we suggest you create your course-based plan beforehand. It makes the process a little easier. Plus, you have enough time to choose the sections wisely. So, here’s what you should do:

  • Identify the courses for the upcoming semester
  • View the sections available for each class
  • Select the best options that work for you
  • And remember to consider your work schedule

If you’re uncertain where you can find your course information, you can visit the program’s page on Humber’s website. And if you’re a Guelph-Humber student, you can search for your program plan.

Also, don’t forget to verify when your specific registration date and time is since it does depend on your year of study.

Always have a backup plan

*Elective is full*

I don’t know about you, but it can be frustrating when you can’t enroll in your preferred elective. But hear me out; have a backup plan.

Having second and third options for electives is crucial. That way, if the section is full, you can enroll quickly for your second choice and at least avoid being stuck with simply what’s available.

Don’t wait until the last minute

Fire up your laptop at least 10 minutes before registration begins.

The servers can get overloaded so it’s important to at least make sure you can get into the portal. And by firing up your laptop early, you can ensure your internet is working too. In the nightmare scenario that your internet isn’t working, you can always try using your phone and data, as opposed to wi-fi.

Contact your program coordinator

Sometimes you might receive an error stating there’s a restriction for a particular course.

If this happens, contact your program coordinator immediately. They will provide an update regarding the course and if it’s possible to enroll.

Plus, sometimes you can enroll at a later date.

Registration can be stressful if you don’t have a plan. It’s essential to be open-minded in case you have to shift around your schedule or change your elective. But, the process can be less frustrating if you plan ahead.

The next time you need to register, avoid waiting until the last minute.
