The IGNITE Board of Directors are students, just like you.

IGNITE’s election season has come to a close, which means the newly elected Board of Directors are just getting started. Knowing who your Board of Directors are is important because they are the student leaders who represent your voice throughout all Humber and University of Guelph-Humber campuses.

So, without further ado, let us learn more about the 2023-2024 IGNITE Board of Directors.

North Campus

Shanell Roye

Program: Civil Engineering

Share a fun fact about yourself: “I love working hard, so I can play even harder! However, outside my daily hustle, I like trying new cuisines and visiting new places. I have also played softball, netball, swimming, soccer, and volleyball in my previous schools.”

Favourite food on campus: “Pizza Pizza me, please!”

Coffee or tea? “Tea, of course!” 

What are you excited about for this term as a Board of Director?

“Thank you for allowing me to serve on the IGNITE Board of Directors for the academic year of 2023-2024. I am thrilled about creating value for students and fostering a culture of innovation and growth.

I look forward to collaborating with the team to continue supporting initiatives that enhance students’ academic, social and personal development and exploring new ways to achieve these goals.”

Karanveer Singh

Program: Business Management

Share a fun fact about yourself: “Fun fact about myself is that I love dancing. Even on weekends I go to dance classes.”  

Favourite food on campus: “Subway.”

Coffee or tea? “Having a choice between coffee and tea, I prefer tea.” 

What are you excited about for this term as a Board of Director? “As a Board of Director, I am excited about making Humber friendly for all the students, where far away from home, Humber can be their home. I am also eager to improve my advocacy as being a Board of Director on campus.”

Angad Handa

Program: Business Management

Share a fun fact about yourself: “A fun fact about me is that I was nominated as the best National Cadet Corps back in high school.”

Favourite food on campus: “My favourite food on campus would be the crispy chicken sub with extra sriracha sauce.”

Coffee or tea? “Tea for sure.”

What are you excited about for this term as a Board of Director? “I am very excited about taking up the responsibility and accountability for this position. I am looking forward to enhancing the student experience and engaging with the community with a clear vision.”

International Graduate School

Augustina Ngene

Program: Business Management – Entrepreneurial Enterprise

Share a fun fact about yourself: “I love football. I’m a die-hard Arsenal fan; we are winning the Premier League this season!”

Favourite food on campus: “We don’t have a cafeteria at IGS, so home cooked meals for me.”

Coffee or tea? “Tea!!!! Which is really hot chocolate to us Nigerians.”

What are you excited about for this term as a Board of Director?

“The opportunity to represent the interests of all Humber and University of Guelph- Humber students by amplifying the issues that really matter to us. 

Also learning from other Board of Directors and the IGNITE team as a whole; meeting new people and building relationships.”

Lakeshore Campus

Navjot Singh

Program: Police Foundations

Share a fun fact about yourself: “I love to explore new places.”

Favourite food on campus: “Starbucks.”

Coffee or tea? “Tea.”

What are you excited about for this term as a Board of Director? “I am excited to do advocacy work and raise the voice of students.” 

What are you excited about for this term as a Board of Director? “As a Board of Director for this new term, I am most excited about leveraging my experience as a startup founder to help IGNITE innovate and grow. I look forward to collaborating with my fellow board members, making informed decisions, and implementing effective strategies that contribute to the success of the organization. I’m eager to be an integral part of shaping IGNITE’s future and supporting our community.”

Guelph-Humber

Jasmine Bates

Program: Media and Communication studies

Share a fun fact about yourself: “I love going to the gym and hope to compete in a body-building competition next year!”

Favourite food on campus: “Subway.”

Coffee or tea? “Tea, chai in specific.”

What are you excited about for this term as a Board of Director?

“I’m excited to cultivate and grow my passion for advocacy and inclusion while working with an amazing team of dedicated students, who all culminate on one goal: to authentically represent and support our Humber & Guelph-Humber school community to the best of our abilities!”

Naisha Suthaharan

Program: Justice studies

Share a fun fact about yourself:  “I have a younger sister.”

Favourite food on campus: “Tims.”

Coffee or tea? “Neither, I like Juice, but if I had to pick, Tea.”

What are you excited about for this term as a Board of Director? “I am most excited to work with my co-board of directors and work with students from all campuses. Additionally, I look forward to coming up with new ideas with the student body!”

Jenny Trang

Program: Justice studies

Share a fun fact about yourself: “I did kung-fu for four years!”

Favourite food on campus: “The beef patties from Ackee Tree.”

Coffee or tea? “Tea.”

What are you excited about for this term as a Board of Director? “As a Board of Director for the new term, I am excited to meet with all the other directors and the IGNITE team and learn how we can best work to advocate for the student body.”

That’s just the beginning! The new term of Board of Directors awaits us, and we can’t wait to see what ideas these student leaders will accomplish!
