Finals are finally over

The campus is quieter and all the group project chats are suddenly dead, and for the first time in weeks, you don’t have a deadline breathing down your neck. This is the moment every student becomes…. very optimistic.

So here are some post-finals promises we all make, knowing deep down they have a very short shelf life.

The new sleep schedule era

“I’m going to fix my sleep schedule,” or “I’ll start waking up early like a productive person.”

When in reality you tell yourself you’ll sleep at 11 p.m., that somehow turns into “just one more episode,” and suddenly it’s 3 a.m. The next day feels disorienting, but you are convinced it’s part of your “recovery phase.”

By the time you try to fix it again, you realize there’s nowhere to be anyway, so you might as well enjoy it. But hey, at least you catch up on sleep, feel refreshed and enjoy the sun after a long week.

The academic comeback

Never a post-final agenda without the:

“I’m never procrastinating again.”

“I’m actually going to study next semester.”

“I’ll stick to the critical path this time.”

The first week of the new semester will be your peak academic comeback. Color-coded calendar, neatly organized deadlines and a genuine belief that this will be your peak. Then life slowly creeps in. One missed reading, and the “I’ll do it later” pattern is back.

You may not be fully consistent yet, but your start will definitely be better. Managing your time and starting assignments early will help you stay on track. Remember, small improvements are still better than no improvement.

The new lifestyle reset

Is it even summer if not the endless:

“I’m going to the gym everyday.”

“I’m done with caffeine.”

“I’m going to eat healthier.”

You start strong. Maybe even go to the gym for the whole week, feel amazing and embrace the “new me” lifestyle. Then the soreness kicks in, and suddenly it’s been two weeks. And caffeine? That promise disappears the second you feel a bit sleepy. But what matters the most is that you move your body more than before and become more mindful of caffeine. It’s always about doing a little better than last time.

The new hobby motivation

The all-nighters and Pinterest scrolls will definitely have you wishing for hobbies:

“I’m going to pick up all the hobbies I postponed.”

“I’ll finally learn something new.”

Even if you don’t fully commit, you are still trying out the hobbies you promised yourself during those late-night crams earlier in the year. Stepping outside your routine is the best thing you can do, and even if it doesn’t turn into a long-term hobby, it is a worthwhile passion.

The life organization routine

“I’m going to clean my room.”

“I’ll be more productive with my time.”

Maybe you clean one corner or make a to-do list. But somewhere along the way, you get distracted and never return to it. The room looks slightly better, but not quite finished, and you convince yourself that partial progress still counts (which, to be fair, it does… kind of).

The digital detox

The classic “I’m going to stay off my phone more.”

Without classes or deadlines, your phone becomes your main source of entertainment, and without realizing it, you’ve spent half your day scrolling without remembering what you even looked at. You might not fully unplug, but you do find moments to disconnect. Maybe it’s catching up with your friends or a stroll in the park.

The “never again” statements

“I’m never pulling an all-nighter”

“I’m never doing this to myself again.”

At the moment, you mean it. After experiencing stress, exhaustion, and last-minute panic, it feels like a lesson learned. But as the semester goes on, deadlines pile up, time slips away and somehow, you find yourself awake at 2 a.m., wondering how it happened again.

The promise that matters

“I deserve this break.”

You absolutely do. Whether you stick to your plans or not, taking your time to reset, rest and refresh after these finals is the most important part. Everything else? You’ll figure it out one semester at a time.
