Here for you, wherever you are.
As you all know by now, Humber and the University of Guelph-Humber have moved their classes primarily online for the Fall, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t here to fully support you throughout it all. Whether you’re on campus, or at home, our services and commitment to you remain as strong as ever.
Your semester will look a little different this year, but we assure you that we’re here to support you through anything you need. If you’re curious about how our services and events are changing this Fall, you’ve come to the right place.
The mandatory and optional fees you pay are what make all this possible, so here’s how IGNITE is prepared to support you from home this year:
Services
You can still access so many of our amazing services from home because you deserve to receive the same care and help that would be available on campus. Better yet, all of our services are free because the last thing you need is more fees to worry about.
Here’s a list of all the services you can access online, or on campus, this semester:
Dispute Resolution Clinic
IGNITE’s Dispute Resolution Clinic (DRC) is still here to handle any conflicts you may be having with free, confidential mediation meetings–this time via Zoom. Currently, meetings can be booked Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
To schedule a session, simply select your campus and choose a time that works best for you.
IGNITE Flexible Health and Dental Insurance
During these uncertain times, your health is more important than ever and we want you to know that. You don’t have to be on campus to access IGNITE’s Flexible Health and Dental Plan. Simply log into WeSpeakStudent.com, and you’ll get the opportunity to choose between the Balanced Plan, the Enhanced Dental Plan, and the Enhanced Drug Plan based on your needs.
You’ll be covered in areas including prescription drugs, dental, vision, extended health, travel, and accident benefits! And, to top it all off, both international and domestic students are eligible for coverage!
Still confused? Feel free to reach out to Nicole Mitskopoulos, Student Wellness Manager with any questions about IGNITE’s Flexible Health and Dental Plan.
Free Menstrual Kits
Periods happen, and we want to help you feel prepared–wherever you are. If you’re on campus, our free menstrual kits will be available all semester-long at the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre (SWAC) and in all washroom dispensers across campus.
Grad photos
Leave the fire grad pics to us. Anyone interested in getting their grad pictures taken will be taken by appointment with COVID-19 protocols set in place to ensure your safety. The schedule can be found on the My Grad Photos Humber website and will change periodically so check back frequently to find a time that works for you!
Student Life
Your social life is a huge part of your student life and we are ensuring you get the same social opportunities you would on campus, and beyond.
To help you have the best semester yet, we’ve made sure that this year has the same perks as before–minus the commute. Here are the social perks you’ll enjoy as a Humber or UofGH student:
Events
Let’s be real. Frosh is definitely probably what students look forward to most when it comes to the back to school season. Sure, school is great and I know many of us are itching to get back to our productive routines, but Frosh is that last hoorah to summer and pretty much a necessity.
Well, not to worry. You won’t have to miss out on the event of the semester this year because Frosh is going virtual this year with an EXCLUSIVE concert with Daniel Caesar ft. 4KORNERS on September 8!
IGNITE is committed to providing students with events to enrich your social life while ensuring you’re equipped with the tools to succeed in your career. That’s why we’re working on providing career-focused virtual Real Talks events with celebrities you know and love as well as webinars to make sure that you’re ready for life once you graduate.
So, if you were worried that events wouldn’t be happening this year–worry no more. Stay tuned for more events to come!

Fees and Bursaries
IGNITE is dedicated to advocating for the diverse needs of students. That means, making difficult decisions to benefit the student body–even when it comes to money. Student life is expensive enough as is, add on nationwide layoffs due to COVID-19 and it’s no wonder why many students are struggling to make ends meet. To compensate, IGNITE here to help by making your student life more affordable.
Reduced mandatory fees
IGNITE’s mandatory fees are set in place to support students and give them the opportunity to succeed. This semester, we’re reducing mandatory fees by $3.75 because every penny counts.
Eliminated optional fees
We are eliminating the $20 Events and Social Opportunities fee to accommodate for students learning remotely, but that doesn’t mean we’re taking away the perks as well. Same perks, same great events, lower fees.
International Student Bursary
Being an international student comes with its perks, but amidst a worldwide pandemic, it has its fair share of challenges. IGNITE understands how difficult this time can be for international students. That’s why we’ve devoted 250,000 to bursaries dedicated to international students.
To be eligible you have to be a Humber College student that is studying full-time in any program during the Fall 2020 and Winter 2021 semesters. Bursaries in the amounts of $500, $750 or $1,000, will be allotted to students depending on the program of study, and their demonstrated financial need.
To apply go to your MyHumber account then click on Student Awards and Financial Aid. This application will remain available until all available funds have been awarded. For more information about eligibility or funds, please contact Humber’s Financial Aid Office at [email protected].
International undergraduate Guelph-Humber students can apply for the Guelph-Humber tuition bursary by filling out a Financial Need Assessment Form from their site here.
