These are crystal clear!

Humber Polytechnic and the University of Guelph-Humber house over 38,000 full-time students — all in the quest for learning. More than a meeting of the minds, the space is designed to make the campus feel like a second home. That means creating an environment that makes sense to the learners and making their needs the top priority. This entails anticipating not only the student body’s studying necessities but also their well-being essentials.

Inspired by TikTok’s things that just make sense online trend, we put together Humber and UofGH’s unique features on center stage that make student life easier — if not better. So, join us as we catalogue the six things around the campuses that just make sense.

Free printing machine

Some things are better hand-held. This can be a copy of your resume, a draft of your latest essay or a print of your course notes. When screen time reading is not your thing, Humber’s free printing and copy machine is here free of charge!

You don’t have to worry; students are allocated $25, or 2,500 credits, per semester for consumable printing. The process is also pretty straightforward. All you have to do is head over to Humber’s online printing center website, where you can log in by punching in your student credentials to upload your desired files. Once downloaded, you can quickly go to the nearest printing station and re-login. Hit print and get your file’s physical copy. It’s that easy!

Printing machines are readily accessible in all campuses’ libraries and learning commons. No need to buy your own printer or search far and wide for the nearest printing shop! It’s right on campus for you to utilize.

Free menstrual pads and tampons

Girls, we get you!  It can get frustrating when you don’t have a pad or tampon during that time of the month. As if menstrual cramps are not enough, the idea of obtaining menstrual products can be daunting, especially when you find yourself in the middle of a class. Also, this can cause so much stress and can easily distract you from learning.

At Humber and UofGH campuses, you don’t have to worry about finding a girl’s monthly best friend! You can find them in every women’s washroom with ease.

If you are the type of person who knows which time of the day is your peak productivity, I am sure the learning commons is your go-to study spot. You might be an early bird, a night owl or a bit of both — it does not matter because the 24/7 learning commons just make sense for all learning types.

This designated study space is an environment geared for learning no matter the time of the day. From quiz preparations to class presentations, this place can effortlessly put your head in the game by cultivating deep focus.

The learning commons also feature provisions for all types of studying. Aside from the bookable group study rooms, there are also quiet study spaces for those who prefer to learn independently. In addition, multimedia equipment such as quick-access computers and free printing and copying machines are readily available.

Laptops have been the new notebooks. However, the presence of both synchronous and asynchronous ways of learning can be a burden for someone who cannot buy a laptop due to financial restraints. This can derail someone’s learning journey. Enter Information Technology Services‘ equipment rental, a service that allows students to borrow a laptop for FREE.

You can avail of the first-come-first-serve resource online by requesting through the web check-out page. All you need is your student credentials, and you are a click away from completing the application. A full rundown of the rental process is explained in this video

Breastfeeding station

With the hustle and bustle of the school premises, lactating and breastfeeding mothers can find it hard to find a spot to express milk in privacy. For student moms, finding the most comfortable study spot is not only the concern they have in mind; they also need to be on the lookout for the best place to breastfeed on campus.

The premises of Humber addresses this dilemma. Found at the Humber North Campus is a Mamava lactation pod. This offers a sweet spot that keeps moms’ comfort in mind. The pod has solid walls for that much-needed privacy and is also wheelchair-accessible.

This removes the barriers for breastfeeding students and employees by providing a comfortable and safe campus environment, contributing to building an inclusive campus on all fronts. This facility eases their needs so they can continue being the super mom that they are.

IGNITE Sleep Lounge

Students are no strangers to the words “sleep deprivation.” When deadlines and exams pile up, pulling an all-nighter becomes the last resort to finish that assignment due at 11:59 p.m. However, lack of sleep does more harm than good. Sleep-deprived students are more likely to exhibit an inability to concentrate and have poor grades. On top of that, you don’t want to be walking like a zombie on campus, right?

Get your one-hour nap to recharge those brain cells! Designed to make “undisturbed naps” happen, the IGNITE Sleep Lounge helps you get restful sleep while on campus. The space is equipped with lounge beds, low lighting and some peace and quiet to fully optimize your capacity to sleep. Some students use this space between classes or during long breaks to reenergize for the rest of the day.

The Sleep Lounge is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every weekday. Navigate your way to KB106, found in the basement area of K Building at the Lakeshore Campus, or at KX204, just above the Student Centre at the North Campus, to give your brain the boost it needs for your next study session. You know you deserve it!
