Don’t sleep on self-care.

If you’re a full-time Humber or UofGH student who’s paid the IGNITE Student Insurance Fee, you’re entitled to health benefits under the Balanced Plan, Enhanced Dental Plan or Enhanced Drug Plan.

No matter which one you choose, you’ll be well taken care of. But to get the most out of your plan, you need to know what it offers.

Here are 5 ways you can take advantage of your IGNITE health benefits:

1. By getting prescription medication

Several blister packs of various medications.

Most health insurance plans cover prescriptions, and the IGNITE FlexPlan does too. This is good news because winter is coming, and students are bound to get sick. Hopefully, YOU won’t catch anything, but if you do, it’s nice to know you’re covered.

The Balanced Plan covers 80% of the cost (up to $2,000 maximum) for most prescription drugs and medicines, allergy serums, insulin injectables and more. The Enhanced Drug Plan covers 90% of the cost (up to $4,000 maximum).

2. By going to the dentist

Visiting the dentist is so expensive that most of us can’t afford a simple teeth cleaning without insurance. With the IGNITE FlexPlan, you can keep your pearly whites shining all semester long.

The Balanced Plan covers 100% of the cost (up to $500 maximum) for one examination and consultation, one cleaning, one unit of polishing and one fluoride treatment. The Enhanced Dental Plan increases the maximum coverage to $800.

3. By getting prescription glasses or contacts

Many students wear prescription glasses or contacts, and they’re not cheap to replace. The IGNITE FlexPlan is designed to reduce the cost of vision correction products for all students who rely on them.

The Balanced Plan covers 100% of the cost for one eye exam every 24 months (up to $75 maximum). It also covers a combined total of $110 for prescribed lenses and frames, contact lenses or laser eye surgery every 24 months.

4. By visiting a specialist

As students, we’re so busy that we often avoid making appointments to see the doctor or dentist, let alone a specialist of any kind. But the IGNITE FlexPlan includes coverage for a lot of great extended health services that are more useful than you might think.

The Balanced Plan covers 80% of the cost (up to $300 maximum) for the services of podiatrist or chiropodist, naturopath or chiropractor, osteopath, registered dietician, acupuncturist, registered massage therapist, physiotherapist and more.

5. By travelling with peace of mind

Who doesn’t love to travel? Whether you’re in Canada or another country, there are tons of great new experiences to be had. But it’s important to have travel insurance in case you get sick or hurt on your journey. You don’t want to be stuck paying for out-of-pocket medical expenses while you’re away. With the IGNITE FlexPlan, you don’t have to worry – you’re automatically insured when you leave the province.

When you’re outside of Canada, the Balanced Plan covers you for up to $10,000 for any single accident. This can pay for things like the services of a physician or anesthetist, services of a nurse, x-ray diagnostics, transportation by a licensed ambulance and more.
