If you win it your way, you enjoy it your way.
Gift cards, Raptors tickets or a plushie. Whatever it may be, there’s always something special about someone winning a contest. The excitement is very real.
But there’s also something even more entertaining about how different people react afterwards. Sometimes the celebration is so quiet they may even call it “making moves in silence,” and other times, practically everyone has heard about it (including the neighbour’s dog).
With different priorities and different ideas about spending, it’s safe to say that the reactions never miss.
So, here are a few classic types of people you just might come across.
The entrepreneur
For the entrepreneur, winning a contest is just another opportunity, a business funding or an investment into a project they have been working on. You’ll find them with notebooks filled with brainstormed ideas to turn their prize into something bigger and better. Maybe it’s a side hustle or main hustle. They already have the ultimate budget allocation plan ready.
To them, the contest is just the first step.
The investor
Their approach to the prize? How much return on investment they can get from it.
With long-term benefits making way into their agenda, this person pauses and considers all the ways their winnings could benefit them in the future. They are in no rush to spend because, in their books, slow and steady always wins the race.
Their excitement is quiet, but the plans are strong.
The personality shifter
Sometimes winning just brings out a different side of someone. The calm friend becomes the most excited person in the room or vice versa. Winning boosts a different type of confidence in them.
They feel completely different from how you remember them.
And similar to the makeover scenes in movies, this person has just done a whole 180. The way they talk and dress is just different about them (or maybe it’s in their strut).
The charitable one
Not every winner thinks of themselves first. The charitable type immediately looks for ways to amplify their happiness by seeing happiness in others. Maybe they decide to donate their prize or do something as simple as getting their friends a coffee.
For them, winning feels better when others benefit from it too.
The shopper
The online shopping cart has finally made its way to the checkout section.
The shopping spree friend wastes no time making a list of items they have been wanting. New clothes, tech and experiences are starting to flow in. Suddenly, everything feels possible and honestly, they deserve it.
Simple philosophy: If you win it, enjoy it.
The student strategist
Let’s be real, as a student, expenses can come in from all sorts of directions.
The student strategists immediately think of tackling these expenses. Textbooks, tuitions, groceries or sweet treats are all making the monthly lists, and with the prize, those expenses are getting checked out just as fast.
Of course, they might still treat themselves because having fun is just as important.
So which one are you?
The social media celebrator
For this type of winner, the first instinct is sharing. The announcement quickly turns into a celebratory post, story or group chat message. Their excitement spreads instantly as friends and followers join in the celebration.
For them, the fun of winning is also about sharing the moment.

The “I never win anything” type
This person is the most shocked of all. They’re the one who always says they never win contests and then suddenly they do. Their reaction is pure disbelief followed by excitement. Double-checking the announcement, confirming if it’s real and then start celebrating.
So which one are you?
Whether someone saves, spends, shares or celebrates online, each winner has their own way of celebrating.
