Apps that will help you succeed!

With tight deadlines, multiple assignments and the school-work balance, higher education can be quite demanding for students. Put your textbooks and notes aside, one tool that can simplify your post-secondary life is apps!

Student-focused apps have been a trend over the past few years. You’ve probably downloaded a few yourself, but with so many options out there, it can be challenging to find the truly useful ones that can help you succeed.

Whether you need assistance focusing on your studies or staying on top of your deadlines, there’s an app for you. This is our list of must-download apps for the school year.

Alarmy

If there’s one thing every human being has in common, it’s how we start our days. And no, I don’t mean by brushing our teeth or taking a shower. We all start our days with the same sound: “beep beep beep,” the morning alarm.

However, if you’re like many people – including me – who need to set multiple alarms to wake up in the morning, Alarmy is the solution to your problem.

With a variety of ringtones, Alarmy ensures you won’t sleep in and miss your classes. The app features different alarm challenges that will definitely get you out of bed. Some options include solving a math problem to turn off the alarm, shaking your phone up to 999 times to dismiss it and the photo mission, where you take a picture of a specific place in your house the night before and must photograph it again in the morning to stop the alarm.

In addition to these unique alarm options, the app offers sleep sounds to help you fall asleep easily and bedtime reminders to prevent late nights. Alarmy also tracks your percentage of deep sleep, the time it takes to fall asleep and your sleep cycles.

Download Alarmy today and you’ll never be late to your classes!

Evernote

If you’re a notetaker – or if you struggle to take notes – Evernote can help you organize your notes, media and important information all in one place.

Evernote is a notetaking app where you can include anything you wish in your notes: images, receipts, documents, web pages – the list goes on. Instead of sifting through pages and pages of notes in your notebook, you can search for specific notes by keywords. The app also allows you to turn on the recorder, ensuring you don’t miss important facts and dates.

You can work offline across different devices, so if you forget to bring your iPad to class, you can pick up from where you left off on your phone. If your classmates also have Evernote, you can collaborate easily as each member can manage their own notes and tasks.

Evernote can also enhance your productivity with its tasks and schedule features, helping you focus on the most important tasks of the day and staying on top of your to-do list.

Notetaking is crucial in post-secondary education, so download Evernote today and start your notetaking journey.

2Do

Are you looking for an app to keep track of your assignments and deadlines? If you’re organization obsessed like I am, you need to download the 2Do app.

2Do is a task manager that helps you easily keep track of your to-do list. You can divide your responsibilities into groups, allowing you to focus on each one separately. This means it’s not just great for keeping track of your assignments but also your house chores and grocery lists. You can create lists, projects with checklists, make important information private and even receive reminders.

Have you ever had an amazing idea for a school project and then forgot it? With 2Do, you can quickly jot down your thoughts and ideas before they go away.

With its checklists and features, you can effortlessly keep track of your post-secondary responsibilities. Time management is very important in higher education, and 2Do will help you stay organized and on top of what you need to do.

Brainscape

Brainscape is the perfect app for practicing your knowledge of post-secondary subjects. The app allows you to browse through existing flashcards or create your own to optimize your studying. It focuses on repeating harder concepts for maximum memory retention.

You can add text, images, videos and even sounds to your flashcards. If you prefer studying with friends, Brainscape lets you work collaboratively with multiple editors at the same time.

Once your flashcards are ready, you can track your progress and see detailed activity data to identify the topics you need to focus on more. You can also share your flashcards with your peers and plan study sessions together.

With Brainscape, you can create or find existing flashcards for the subjects you need and practice your knowledge before an important test.

Forest

If you struggle to stay focused on your studies, Forest is the app for you.

Forest helps you stay on task by planting digital trees. I know this sounds confusing, so let me explain. If you want to focus on something – let’s say studying – you open the app and plant a digital tree. As you concentrate on your work for the set time, your digital tree grows. If you get distracted and leave the app, your tree will wither. That’s a good motivation, isn’t it?

And you don’t even know the best part yet. Forest partners with a real-tree-planting organization, Trees for the Future, to plant real trees. When users spend virtual coins earned in the app to plant real trees, Forest donates to create planting orders. So far, Forest has funded over 2 million trees!

While Forest will help you concentrate and succeed in your studies, you’ll also be contributing to the environment.
