Another Annual General Meeting (AGM), another year of propelling IGNITE’s purpose of enriching student life at Humber.

IGNITE’s 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. To those who joined virtual online gathering, thank you for amplifying your voice with us! If you missed it, don’t worry – you can watch the recording or keep reading to learn about what was discussed.

The AGM started with IGNITE Board Chair, Jessica Carrera-Valle, welcoming all members present and stating how happy IGNITE was to provide in-person services this year. The outgoing IGNITE Board Chair further covered all important points from the 2022- 2023 academic year and discussed future plans that IGNITE has in store for everyone.

Here’s what happened next:

Students ratified the new elected BOD members at AGM.

The IGNITE Board of Directors (BOD) were recently elected through student voting which took place from March 6, 2023 – March 10, 2023. Winners were announced on March 10th, 2023, and the incoming Board takes office May 1.

Attending participants of the AGM moved to uphold these results and approved the following students as the BOD members.

Approval of bylaw amendments

The IGNITE board of directors proposed to amend the bylaws in an executive meeting which was held on November, 2022.

The IGNITE bylaws were amended to ensure representation of the IGS campus on IGNITE’s board of Directors. The attending members approved the amendments in these bylaws by voting at the AGM.

2022-2023 IGNITE impact report

IGNITE tries its best to make a difference in student lives, and part of how we do this is by creating employment opportunities on campus. IGNITE’s organizational structure shows its virtues of supporting diversity and inclusivity. IGNITE is proud to employ students from all walks of life. It currently employs 18 domestic and 40 international students on campus.

During the Impact Report presentation, attendees were informed about the impactful services and facilities offered by IGNITE throughout the year 2022-2023.

Some highlights include:

  • Need and Greed campaign
  • The Black Excellence, Pride and Indigenous scholarships
  • Black Heritage month, Indigenous movie night, pink sweater day partnerships and events
  • Around 650 received training to succeed in their career through Skills Bundle program
  • 926 students received IGNITE bursaries

IGNITE will publish the full Impact Report in April.

Breakdown of IGNITE’s budget

Attendees were informed about the budget plans IGNITE has for the future. As usual, IGNITE will use the student union fees to provide an enriching student life. These services will include Sleep Lounge, Soup Bar and the free Tax Clinic.

Students approved the 2023- 2024 financial auditors

Students approved of BDO Canada LLP to be IGNITE’s financial auditor for the fiscal year 2023-2024. BDO Canada LLP will be helping IGNITE with their financial assessments and audits in the year ahead.
