“I was really shocked, I was not expecting this prize.”

Devanshi Madani.

Have you ever come across those scam ads that claim: “We pay you to answer surveys?” I know, they’re annoying. But, IGNITE actually gives you real prizes for answering surveys – and I promise, it’s legit!

Since it started last week, on Sept. 3, Humber College and the University of Guelph-Humber students have the chance to win various gift cards and a grand monthly prize of $1000 with the IGNITE Contest!

Once a month until March 31, 2025, students can complete a monthly survey about their needs and priorities and IGNITE’s services. After the survey, you’ll play a little fun game for a chance to win gift cards or the $1000 prize. You’re eligible for one entry per month. You can also participate in the IGNITE Contest in person by approaching one of our brand ambassadors during on-campus activations.

In the summer semester, the IGNITE Summer Contest awarded a $1000 prize to a lucky student. We caught up with the winner, Devanshi Madani, to learn more about her experience.

Madani, originally from India, is pursuing a business management diploma at Humber College. When discussing the IGNTE Summer Contest, Madani recalls what she describes as a “random day.” She and a friend were heading to the cafeteria at the North campus when they noticed the IGNITE activation on their way. Knowing that IGNITE often provides free snacks or food to students, they decided to stop by and see what was available.

Though an IGNITE brand ambassador informed them that the goodies had run out, they also mentioned the ongoing IGNITE Summer Contest. Madani and her friend decided to sign up on a whim, not really expecting to win.

Madani submitted the survey and quickly forgot about it. However, on July 29, during class, she began receiving a flood of messages from friends congratulating her. At first, she was confused, but then she realized that IGNITE had announced her as the winner live on Instagram.

“I didn’t expect that would be such a great day. I was really shocked, I was not expecting this prize,” Madani said with a smile, recalling how an ordinary day turned into an extraordinary one.

Madani describes the survey as very easy and basic, taking no more than two minutes to complete. She emphasized that such a small effort could lead to winning an incredible prize.

What is she going to do with the money? Well, she hasn’t made a final decision yet. Her top priority is to pay her fourth-semester fees, but she’s also considering buying a gift for her parents.

Madani highlights the importance of IGNITE’s scholarshipsbursaries and contests, noting that she herself has benefited from the IGNITE Bursary.

“It’s really helpful and important (for students). $500, $1000 are not small amounts; it can impact a lot,” Madani said.

She encourages every student to participate in the IGNITE Contest, acknowledging that while it’s hard to win and the odds might be low, anyone could be the next lucky winner.

As the fall semester begins. Madani offers some advice to her fellow students.

“All the best for the new semester. I guess everyone has taken the break and it might be difficult to start learning after a long time, but IGNITE is planning so many events which will help them (students) to come to the college every day and do some fun stuff,” Madani said.
