Health & Dental Insurance Plan Your physical health is important.

What is insurance?

Health insurance is a financial safety net that helps you as a student manage the cost of healthcare so you can focus on your studies worry-free. Insurance services are usually provided for a monthly fee. At IGNITE, the coverage is charged on a semester basis. This service helps you cover medical expenses and services totally or partially, with either copayments or deductibles, and connects you with a reliable network of health and dental providers.

General Plan Information

We know health can be a huge worry, but we have your back! All Humber Polytechnic students are charged $116.65 per semester for IGNITE’s Health and Dental Insurance plan. If you are on a semester break, co-op/placement/apprenticeship semester, please check your tuition fees to ensure you were billed. If you were not, please reach out to us to opt-in. If you followed these steps and you’re still unsure, get in touch via the Contact Us or blue live chat box in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Student Benefit Card

Whenever you want to use your insurance, make sure to have your Student Benefit Card on hand, either physically or on your phone (you can get a physical card at IGNITE’s offices or download the e-card [PDF]). Alternatively, you may also check your AVRO Mobile. Usually, your service provider can bill Alumo directly and you’ll only pay the difference between the cost and the amount that is covered.

Sometimes, you’ll need to pay up front and file a claim to request reimbursement. Filing a claim means you are asking Alumo to reimburse you for an appointment, prescription or other service that you’re covered under your insurance plan. By filing a claim, you provide documentation (your service provider and receipts for costs incurred) so the insurance company can validate your claim and compensate your costs.

To file a claim, you’ll need to create an eProfile with ClaimSecure. Once you have created your profile, you can submit your drug, dental and extended health claims either online or by mail. For more information on how to file a claim, download this handy guide [PDF].

How to Opt-Out

You must be in the first semester of your academic year to qualify for the opt out. This means that if your program starts in September, you must opt out by the Fall semester deadline. If you miss the deadline, you are not able to opt out of any following semesters for the academic year. Deadline dates are listed above.

As long as you’re covered by an alternative provider that covers drug, dental, and extended healthcare, you may submit an opt out form to Alumo. Depending on your alternative coverage, you are eligible to opt out of the entire plan or the prescription part of the plan only. Once you submit an opt out form with proof of alternative coverage through the Alumo website, please ensure that you receive an email confirmation. If you do not, please contact Alumo directly. All ineligible applications will be disregarded and will not be approved to receive the corresponding refund. Please monitor your emails as you will be contacted at the email address provided on the opt out form should you provide incorrect information. Alumo will allow you to resubmit valid responses within a timeframe in the case that any information filled in is incorrect.

Students who opt out of the IGNITE Health and Dental Plan successfully at the beginning of their study term will be opted out for the entire academic year. Please keep in mind that you must also include your personal direct deposit information as the refund will come as a reimbursement directly from the insurance provider. Refunds will not be processed until 6-8 weeks after the opt-out deadline.

For full details and to opt out, visit Alumo.

How to Opt-In

IGNITE cares about you and your family, which is why spouses and dependent children can be added to a student’s health and dental insurance plan for an additional fee. You can apply via Alumo by choosing the Family Opt-In option before the deadline dates listed above.
