Drag your a** to school
Thu, Sep 12 @ 12:00 pm
To kick off the school year in style, IGNITE, in partnership with the Humber LGBTQ+ Resource Centre, is hosting a glamorous – literally – drag show! Whether you’re a longtime fan of drag or new to the scene, this event promises an unforgettable experience filled with self-expression, creativity and inclusivity that you can’t miss.
The event will feature three drag queens: Helena Poison, Ivory Towers and Makayla Couture, who will dazzle you with their stunning performances, jaw-dropping outfits and an atmosphere overflowing with love and acceptance.
Renowned for her makeup skills, costuming and a body sculpted by “sex, foam and fast food,” Poison is Toronto’s Glam Rock Grunge Queen. She’s been featured in magazines, music videos, IKEA Canada’s pride campaign and her designs have even appeared on season one of Canada’s Drag Race. Known for being sexy, spooky and a bit stupid, Poison is ready to deliver a show-stopping performance.
Towers, a Humber College graduate herself, began her journey in 2008 and has since taken her talents to stages across Toronto, Montreal, New York City, Los Angeles and the GTA. With nearly 20 years of hosting and performance experience, her unique blend of dance and comedy promises an unforgettable show.
Last but not least, Couture is a “star.” Despite her humble beginnings, unable to afford theatre and dance classes, Couture’s charisma and skill led her to start a dance club where she taught student routines she found on YouTube. Don’t let her youth fool you – once she takes the stage, you won’t be able to look away.
These three queens will be putting on a show on Thursday, Sept. 12, at the North campus, IGNITE Student Centre (KX202). The show starts at 12 p.m., but we encourage you to arrive early. While no pre-registration is required – just drop by and our brand ambassadors will register you on the spot – the first 15 students will get an exclusive opportunity to meet the queens after their performances.
Make sure to follow the LGBTQ+ Resource Centre on Instagram because they’ll be hosting a social media giveaway where five lucky students will get the chance to meet the drag queens!
And, of course, we’ll be providing snacks throughout the show. Don’t miss out on this spectacular event to kickstart the school year with a bang!
