Scrolling on TikTok for hours may not be a waste of time.

Do you want to learn new skills this year?

Well, TikTok is the place to do it. (Dance challenges aren’t the only thing on the app.)

In November 2020, TikTok launched #learnontiktok: a hashtag campaign encouraging creators to teach their peers and viewers new things. It’s like if all your classes were under three minutes long and you could attend whenever you want. (We can dream!)

Today, this hashtag hosts over a million videos. So, needless to say, there are basically endless skills for you to master!

Here’s IGNITE’s roundup of some of the most interesting abilities you can learn on TikTok:

So, have you ever tried mochi ice cream?

The Japanese-inspired treat starts with a sweet and chewy rice dough. But that’s not all! It’s also filled with ice cream. (So, it’s basically heaven on Earth.) The dessert was invented by Japanese-American businesswoman Frances Hashimoto.

And, you can easily make mochi ice cream at home because of TikTok! Creator @jasmineandtea‘s one-minute video walks you through how to make strawberry mochi ice cream with only six ingredients. Who knew that’s all you’d need to satisfy your sweet tooth?

Did you know you can save bees for a living? Erika Thompson does—and so this TikToker documents her career as a professional beekeeper.

Thompson’s videos showcase how to safely clear out bee infestations. And, in most of them, she identifies and captures the queen bee so the rest of the hive can follow and she can safely move them to a new home.

If you’re interested in beekeeping, you can check out Humber’s Sustainable Urban Beekeeping program and get started right at home.

Complex workout routines aren’t for everyone—and that’s more than OK! Sometimes, the simplest ways to get exercise work best.

On TikTok, Dr. Alex George promotes walking everyday. That’s because, he says, it encourages a positive mindset, creativity, mental health and better sleep. And, on top of all that, it’s easy!

We hope mastering these talents brightens up your new year. But, hey, if you aren’t sold on these skills, keep on scrolling through #learnontiktok to find something that caters to you.
