BLACK EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP

Application

The IGNITE Black Excellence Scholarship was created in 2021 to recognize five outstanding students and upcoming leaders within the Black and African community here at Humber College and the University of Guelph-Humber. Recipients of the $1,000 scholarship are selected based on their academic standing, their demonstration of leadership and community involvement, as well as their financial need.

Applications for the 2023-24 school year will open on Thursday, February 1st and will remain open until Thursday, Feb. 29th. Simply complete and submit the application form below.

In order to qualify, you must:

  • currently be a student (full-time or part-time) enrolled at Humber College or the University of Guelph-Humber
  • currently be in good academic standing in your program
  • identify as Black or African
  • have demonstrated leadership experience and/or community involvement

The application consists of three questions. Please keep responses to maximum of 250 words per question. You will also have the opportunity to upload references from current or former employers, colleagues, volunteer supervisors, professors, coaches, etc.

  • As a Black/African student, what has been your experience on-campus so far? What are you hoping this next chapter in your educational journey will be?
  • Describe your past or present community or volunteer involvement. Feel free to also share what type of community or volunteer work you would like to do in the future.
  • What ways will this scholarship continue to help you be a leader of Black Excellence on campus?
