Breaking Barriers with Catherine McKenna

Fri, Mar 13 @ 11:30 am 2:00 pm

In Celebration of International Women’s Day

On this International Women’s Day, we’re breaking barriers with the former minister of the environment and climate change Catherine McKenna.

IGNITE invites you to an inspiring keynote featuring Canada’s renowned climate leader and author of Run Like a Girl.

Her career path has taken her from Olympic dreams to the highest levels of public service and international climate action. McKenna’s story is not only about politics, but also about persistence, challenging norms and embodying one message: barriers are meant to be broken

About the speaker

As Canada’s former minister of the environment and climate change, McKenna has:

  • Served as a lead negotiator of the Paris Agreement.
  • Defended landmark legislation to establish carbon pricing in Canada.
  • Led national efforts to phase out coal, reduce plastics and double the amount of protected nature spaces.
  • Serves as a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at Columbia Climate School and Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics.
  • Chaired the UN Secretary General’s High-Level Expert Group on Net-Zero Commitments of Non-State Entities.

Her memoir, Run Like a Girl, details her journey advocating for real climate action and her journey to the frontlines of politics.
