Who’d have thought being on your phone would make you more productive.
Let’s be real. Your phone can be a big distraction. While there are countless ways to keep you productive, there are plenty of apps out there to help you in your day-to-day life. So for every Candy Crushin’, Snapchattin’ screen addict out there, I have news for you. Either keep scrolling endlessly through Instagram or download these 6 useful apps:
HabitBull
We all know it’s the time of year to actually start staying on top of stuff. But there are too many things to do. Plus, you don’t really want to do them anyway because you’re a lazy sloth of a human. Slackers rejoice, there is a solution. HabitBull will keep you on top of things. They say it takes two months to form a habit; HabitBull will whip you into shape.
Using reminders to keep you going, this app will help you create healthy habits. Whether you’re trying to study every night for 30 minutes or make sure you visit the gym, HabitBull has you covered. Not only does it keep your goals in one place, but it even keeps track of your streaks. Streaks are a great way to gamify your habits. The longer the streak, the better you feel. This is an excellent motivation to keep you on the right track. The app is free up to five tasks. After that, you’ll have to pay to get more slots.

MyHumber
Have you ever had to screenshot the Humber website on your phone to know your schedule? Or maybe you took a grainy picture of your greasy food-splattered laptop screen to remember your class times. You don’t need to do that anymore. After you wipe your laptop, download the MyHumber app to have your daily schedule at your fingertips. You’ll never have an excuse to be late again. Classroom numbers and other class details are displayed as well, which means no guesswork. The MyHumber app has plenty of other stuff to offer. You can check your grades and view your holds. There’s even a tab that will show the upcoming events for Humber and IGNITE. This app is a must for any Humber student.

Blackboard
The Blackboard app will give you full access to everything on the desktop site. On the app, you will be able to find class resources, lecture slides and notes. All of which can be downloaded onto your phone. You can even message your course instructor using the message system. That means you can contact them whenever you’re sick (or just don’t want to roll out of bed). They’re still a few kinks that need to get ironed out of this one. It’s not the most reliable when it comes to functionality. There will be instances where things don’t appear. Sometimes things just won’t upload. Give it time. Rome wasn’t built in a day, but this app might have been. It has already improved since they first released it. Plus, it still beats having to pull out your laptop to access Blackboard.

Humber Campus Compass
Humber North is a winding maze of madness. Every time I’m there, I feel like I’m about to be chased by a minotaur. I’m also certain there’s a goblet of fire hidden somewhere in the building. Walking through the halls, it’s not uncommon to see disoriented first-year students rocking on the floor in the fetal position. Lost souls with no idea where to go.
It’s okay, this app will lead you to salvation. The Humber Campus Compass will be your North Campus Sherpa and help you navigate these concrete catacombs all the way to class. Additionally, the app can locate pay stations, eateries, ATMs, and washrooms. There is also a Find My Friend function so if you guys want to meet up you can see their location.

Trello
Have a group project? This app will make everything easier. Trello allows you and your group members to create a work pipeline. You will be able to collaborate and visually see what everyone is working on. This makes it that much easier to get stuff done and see who the non-contributing bum in the group is. The simple interface even allows you to build boards that show everyone’s progress. All you need to do is drag and drop the task that you are assigned along the different stages. This will indicate to your other members where you are in the process.

Todoist
Their name is fairly self-explanatory – it’s a to-do list. This simple app is a useful tool for keeping you organized. By categorizing your list into names and colours, you can add and check off tasks as you go.
You can set reoccurring tasks. For example, you can set a daily reminder to feed your cat. That said, if you need a daily reminder to feed your cat, maybe you shouldn’t have one. There is a priority selection as well making it easy to visualize what you need to do first. Todoist has put a lot of work into this app to streamline the process so you can get through your tasks efficiently.
