Feeling good matters in fashion.
We are back with IGNITE’s most beloved fashion series: Street Styles. This time, we’re sharing that you don’t have to be a fashionista to have style. Looking good and feeling good often go hand in hand.
As you walk around Humber Polytechnic and the University of Guelph-Humber, you’ll see all kinds of outfits that catch your eye. The best part? All styles have their unique story behind them.
Whether the priority is comfort, projecting a professional demeanour or simply throwing on whatever was on hand the morning of class, fashion isn’t just for the runway. Different clothing and accessories blend to form creative combinations.
In the latest edition of our Street Styles series, we explored the Lakeshore campus, looking for outfits and students that stand out.
Kimberly Caday

Kimberly Caday is a student in the bachelor of commerce – fashion management program. She prides herself on her fashion sense. The ensemble she has on here is defined by vertical lines and patterns.
Her pink sunglasses have a thick black frame and are a versatile accessory from Winners. She also enjoys experimenting with different scrunchies; the one she is wearing was a steal from Dollarama.
“Being a fashion student allows me to express myself through my clothing choices, and I enjoy putting together stylish looks and experimenting.”
Kimberly Caday
Her white, short-sleeved top complements her black and white striped skirt, and the whole outfit is tied together with black stockings and a pair of versatile Nike shoes.
Kimberly describes her fashion sense as “casual feminine” and enjoys putting together combinations of clothing that resonate with her.
As a fashion student, she also loves checking out social media and the latest fashion trends and styles.
Hector Mata

Another bachelor of commerce student, but in the marketing program, Hector Mata’s stylish red and white shoes are from Alexander McQueen‘s, and his (slightly) baggy dark pants are from Abercrombie & Fitch. This marketing student loves quality clothing that is both comfortable and stylish, but also stands the test of time.
This outfit is completed by a blue polo shirt, which was a gift from his father and has tremendous sentimental value. It also matches well, and the colour scheme doesn’t clash, but instead is complementary.
Hector said he likes to look put together and professional, but also casual, with a diverse wardrobe for either occasion. That day, he had to come to school early in the morning and didn’t have a lot of time to think about his outfit — it ended up coming together quite nicely anyway!
“I like to wear comfortable clothes, and I feel like everyone has their own unique sense of style. You look as good as you think you look.”
Hector Mata
Hector believes confidence is the most essential key to any good outfit.
Mellisa Jule Napenas

Mellisa Jule Napenas’s sense of style is understated but stylish. She’s in the same program as Hector.
“I like neutral grey colours with a general basic black shirt because they can go with anything.”
Mellisa Jule Napenas
Her simple but elegant black short-sleeved shirt from Shein, combined with her grey sweatpants from Roots, is the definition of comfort — plus, they look great!
Mellisa said her grey bottoms are very comfortable and stylish. Her wardrobe is the definition of comfort. The colours she tends to be drawn to allow her to mix and match different pieces of clothing and look ready to go, from head to toe.
She said this outfit is in a “heavy rotation” for her. She enjoys not standing out too much and likes that she can blend into a crowd without compromising her individual fashion sense.
Her tote bag from Uniqlo brings the whole outfit together. The muted colours work well together and are the perfect outfit for the beginning of the school year.
Gabriella Francis

For Gabriella Francis, a student in the bachelor of public relations program, her fashion is adaptable.
“My fashion is based on where I’m going, so what I wear to school might be different from what I wear to a birthday party or an interview.”
Gabriella Francis
Her pants are from Winners and have a whopping six pockets on them — she’ll never run out of places to put things. They aren’t exactly jeans, nor are they sweatpants, but rather a hybrid of the two. They aren’t overly casual but are comfortable and fashionable. Most importantly, she said they feel good. The contrast of colours and textures makes this an amazing outfit.

Whatever you choose to wear, the one thing that most people with good fashion sense have in common is confidence. Whether you are dressing for comfort or dressed up for a night out, how you feel directly coincides with how others perceive you.
If you dress for yourself, your own unique style will shine through!
Stay tuned, North campus students, you’re getting featured next!
