It’s the same routine…

Most of our mornings start off about the same: wake up, get ready, eat breakfast (if we’ve got the time), and head out the door. We often tell ourselves that there’s no time to make lunch, and decide to buy something from school instead.

Although this may be unavoidable at times, it doesn’t have to be your situation every day. Bringing a lunch from home will help you save a lot of money in the long run, so we decided to compile some of the easiest school lunches for you to bring instead.

Bonus: these recipes are easily adjustable, so you can add whatever ingredients you like!



Ingredients: (makes 6 burritos)

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning
  • 6 flour tortillas
  • 16 oz refried bean, 1 can
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend
  • Your choice of toppings: lettuce, tomatoes, onions, peppers


  1. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet on high heat, adding in the taco seasoning. Cook until browned.
  2. Assemble the burritos by microwaving the flour tortilla for about twenty seconds.
  3. Begin to layer burrito starting with refried beans, followed by the cooked beef, cheese and the rest of your toppings.

*You can even freeze your burritos for future snacking!

Ingredients: (serves 4)

  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 pound of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into ½-inch-thick slices
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 1 medium bell peppers, cut into ½-inch-thick slices
  • 1 medium yellow onion, halved and cut into ½-inch-thick slices
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced or crushed
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt and black pepper


  1. Heat 2 tablespoons oil in large skillet to medium, high heat.
  2. Add the chicken, veggies, garlic, and spices. Cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the veggies are soft and tender and the chicken is golden and cooked through.
  3. You can serve with rice, pasta, toasted bread.

Grilled Cheese

  • 2 slices of bread (white or brown)
  • 2 slices of cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, swiss, provolone
  • 1.5 tablespoons of butter OR 1 teaspoon of canola oil
  • Optional: garlic powder, basil, and thinly sliced tomatoes and onions


  1. Preheat skillet over medium heat.
  2. Generously butter one side of a slice of bread OR heat 1 teaspoon canola oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place a sandwich in the pan.
  3. Place bread butter-side-down onto skillet bottom and add 1 slice of cheese. *If you want, you can add some extra seasonings, along with the thinly sliced tomatoes and onions*
  4. Butter a second slice of bread on one side and place butter-side-up on top of the sandwich. Grill until lightly browned and flip over; continue grilling until cheese is melted.

for 1 serving

  • half cup rotini pasta, cooked
  • ¼ cup rotisserie chicken, shredded
  • ¼ cup marinara pasta sauce
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced


  1. Heat up a rotisserie chicken and marinara sauce.
  2. Place cooked pasta in a thermos followed by hot chicken and marinara sauce.
  3. Shake to mix and place in lunch box along with sliced bell peppers.
