Position Overview

Job Title: Tax Clinic Volunteer
Campus: Humber North & Lakeshore
Number of Positions: 20
Position Type: Volunteer (Minimum 10 hours/week
Term: Winter (March 2023 – April 2023)
Reports To: Manager, Career Success


As a Tax Clinic Volunteer, students will be able to apply their academic learnings into practice by filing tax returns and working with clients. The role is a combination of tax preparation and delivering exceptional customer service in a virtual setting. Knowledge with income tax preparation is an asset, but not formal experience is required. Must be a current student at Humber College or University of Guelph-Humber.


Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Attend virtual IGNITE training sessions
  • Educate and support students filing their tax return through UFile
  • Navigate online booking system and virtual video conferencing platforms, Microsoft Teams


  • Customer service related skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think analytically
  • Superb ability to mange time and stay organized


  • Introduction to income tax preparation course/education
  • Experience in business accounting or financial services field (such as: tax preparation services, bookkeeping)
  • Knowledge of tax laws and tax concepts, solid critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written communication skills including spelling and proper use of grammar
