Love is love.

June is Pride Month. A month dedicated to LGBTQ2S+ folks and their ongoing fight for equality where people can show off their pride or allyship to the world. It’s a month where everyone can celebrate their inner and outer beauty.

Though we won’t be able to celebrate at the Pride Parade this year, there are still so many ways to wear your colours loud and proud–from home. And lucky for you, you don’t have to search far for fun events this year.

So, you’ve already got IGNITE’s list of Pride events to attend this year scheduled in your agenda–what more can there be? Well, Humber has a bunch of virtual events planned so you can show your support without leaving the house.

Check out the events Humber has in store for you this month:

Pride Speaker Series

Nothing beats learning from brilliant speakers. Well, step aside TED Talks because Humber has an amazing lineup of inspirational speakers to inspire Humber and UofGH students. Speakers include Leon Tsai on June 9 at 1 p.m., Jack Lewis on June 16 at 1 p.m., and Chantal Sutherland & Brady White on June 23 at 1 p.m.

These speakers have incredible stories to share, and if you’re anything like me–you’ll be attending every single one of them.

Reminder: you must register for the event you want to attend beforehand.

Pride Programming

Humber has many amazing people who work hard to make your student experience a great one. This year, our friends from FYE, P.A.L.S, the B.A.S.ECPEP, Leadership programs, and The University of Guelph-Humber will be hosting their own series of fun events ranging from baking to makeup lessons, to origami and SO MUCH MORE.

Events will be held via Instagram Live or Microsoft Teams and there is no prior registration required.

LGBTQ+ Resource Centre Programming

The LGBTQ+ Resource Centre works to provide a safe space for all students at Humber or UofGH by offering dedicated spaces to ensure nobody feels alone or unwanted–but they don’t stop there. Though the resource centre is currently closed, their work continues on from home.

They offer many services to engage students and are in charge of creating all of the events for Pride Month. The events you can look forward to this year are: Collaborative Playlist Making on June 5 at 1.p.m.At Home DIY Zine Creation on June 12 at 1 p.m., Q-Talk On Pride: What Does it Mean to Us? on June 19 at 1 p.m., and Pride Remains Political sticker workshop on June 22 at 1 p.m.

Registration is required, so don’t wait to register ASAP for each respective event!
