Comic Expos are a great way to meet people that share your interests, not to mention to bring all of your favourite characters together in one room. Where else would Batman and the Little Mermaid hangout?

From a meet and greet with¬†Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’s Brett Dalton, to an incredible virtual reality station, it’s safe to say that this year’s Comic Expo was a huge success! Check out some of the best costumes that Humber and Guelph-Humber students sported at this year’s event.

Comic expo street styles, War machine costume

Charleston, Kinesiology, Guelph-Humber

Character? War Machine

Favourite thing about character? This character resonates with me and I feel like if I would play anyone I would play him. I just like his comedy in the movie and his role in the film, so it was natural for me to make myself into the character.

Favourite part of costume? The part that lights up because I didn’t have to make it myself, I just bought it at Walmart, everything else was annoying to make.

How long did it take you to make this? I think about a month, probably about 200 hours.

Favourite comic villain? It’s gotta be Doctor Doom, he was always the strongest character in video games, and if I wanted to play a bad guy I’d play him.

Favourite comic hero? Isn’t it obvious? War Machine! But second place would probably be iron man, though he’s a bit too self-absorbed for my liking.

Comic expo street styles, Katarina from League of Legends costume

Sarah, GH

Character? Katarina from League of legends

Favourite thing about character? That she’s so badass, obviously.

Favourite part of costume? The swords that I made because they were the first prop I ever created.

Favourite comic villain? That’s a hard one, I’ll go with Joker though because he’s such a dynamic character.

Favourite comic hero? Probably the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Comic Expo Street Styles, Maiev Shadowsong from World of Warcraft

Dayna, Media Studies, GH

Character? Maiev Shadowsong from World of Warcraft.

Favourite thing about character? Well, she’s determined, she chases a man who ticks her off for thousands of years.

Favourite part of costume? Definitely the cape. I love capes! Capes are my thing and they’re really fun to make!

Favourite comic villain? Poison Ivy, definitely.

Favourite comic hero? Well, Batman, I’m a Batman fanatic!

Comic expo street styles, Batman costume

Nick, North campus

Character? Batman.

Favourite thing about character? He fights villains!

Favourite comic hero? Batman!

Comic expo street styles, Wonder Woman costume

Caitlyn, Kinesiology, GH

Character? Wonder Woman

Favourite thing about character? She just doesn’t care, she does her own thing. She’s super hard-core and she’s really independent as an individual.

Favourite part of costume? Probably the leg bracers. I’ve never made a costume before, so really the whole thing though. I think it turned out really well.

Favourite comic villain? From any universe? It’s going to be Joker. There are so many though!

Favourite comic hero? I think it’s a toss up between a couple, just because DC and Marvel are so different and they both do a great job of conveying characters. I know Luke Cage just came out and I really like him!

Comic expo street styles, Harley Quinn Costume

Christina, Media Studies at GH

Character? Harley Quinn from DC’s Suicide Squad.

Favourite thing about character? I would have to say her love for the Joker. Me as a person, I’m obsessed with the Joker, and Harley’s obsessed with the Joker, so why not be Harley?

Favourite part of costume? I would probably say the top because I spent a lot of time on it since I painted it myself. They sell them but I wanted to make it!

Favourite comic villain? The Joker!

Favourite comic hero? That one is actually really different because it’s not even DC, I would say Captain America, he just seems like an ordinary guy, yet he’s so extraordinary. He’s a normal guy fighting for justice, and he does it without gadgets like Batman.

The Little Mermaid costume, Comic expo street styles

Alexa, Media Studies, GH

Character? The Little Mermaid, from the Kiss the Girl scene.

Favourite thing about character? I love how bubbly and wonderful she is, how close she is to me personally. It’s one of my favourite Disney movies ever!

Favourite part of costume? I’ve gotta say the wig, it’s just so much fun to put it on because once I do I’m Arielle, I love it.

Favourite comic villain? Let’s go with the Joker.

Favourite comic hero? Superman.
