History is calling the future from the streets of protest. What choice will we make? What world will we create? What will we be? There are only two choices: racist or antiracist.” — Dr. Ibram X. Kendi

Racism is insidious.

It’s so insidious that if you do not consciously fight against it, it will continue to damage, discriminate and destroy. You can’t be “not racist”—you must be antiracist.

IGNITE is helping you be actively antiracist with our Anti-Black Racism Roundtable video series. Created in partnership with Humber College’s Black Academic Success and Engagement centre (the BASE) and the Humber Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Diversity (CHRED), this program is designed to broaden your understanding of anti-Black racism and provide you with the tools to challenge it in your community.

Our first six episodes were hosted by your Lakeshore campus Student Engagement Coordinator Erika and featured panellists Nupol Kiazolu, Anthony N. Morgan, Keosha Love, and Dr. Ibram X. Kendi.

Now, moderator Neil Price is having an individual conversation with Dr. Kendi, a leading figure in antiracist research.

Here’s what they had to say:

Episode 7: How to be an Antiracist

Dr. Kendi’s New York Times bestselling book How to Be an Antiracist presents a revolutionary approach to eradicating racist ideals. In this episode, Dr. Kendi describes how he developed the text, the motivations behind it and the response he’s received since it was published.

Episode 8: The Future of Anti-Black Racism Research

Having recently founded the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research, Dr. Kendi dives into the organization’s goal for evolving the discipline.

IGNITE extends a special thanks to Dr. Kendi for sharing his expertise with the Humber and Guelph-Humber community.
