“I’m your other mother, silly.”

Some people think Halloween is only one day a year. But real fans of the holiday know October 31 is really the last day of Halloween season. It starts the moment the first leaf falls to the ground.

And, because we celebrate spooky szn for as long as humanly possible, by the time Halloween day actually rolls around, we’re kind of over the festivities. We’ve done the pumpkin patches, the cookie-decorating, the costume-making, the apple-picking — the whole nine. So, what we really want to do while kids trick-or-treat is melt into the couch and enjoy our favourite Halloween movies.

If you’re like us, and that sounds like your plan for Halloween too, add these classics to your lineup this year:

1. Monster House (2006)

As kids, we thought every old house was sentient and sinister. It’s Monster House‘s fault.

2. Halloweentown (1998)

TBH, you could make a Halloween marathon only out of Halloweentown movies there are four!

3. Beetlejuice (1988)

If you’ve already seen this one so many times you can basically recite it word-for-word, might we recommend the Broadway musical?

4. Coraline (2009)

Remember how they tried to convince us this movie was for kids?

Don’t let the stop-motion animation and playful art style fool you — the Beldam is one of the most chilling characters in film history.

5. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

Dammit, Janet — you knew we wouldn’t put together a Halloween movie list without including The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

6. Hocus Pocus (1993)

Fun fact: Leonardo DiCaprio was offered the role of Max but he turned it down.

7. The Nightmare Before Christmas

The verdict’s still out on if this is a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie. But, honestly, it’s so good we’ll binge it during both seasons.

8. The Addams Family (1991)

When you’re an Addams — well, you watch The Addams Family on Halloween. Duh.

9. Edward Scissorhands (1990)

Honestly, at this point, just appoint Tim Burton mayor of Halloween.
