We can almost see the finish line!
There are only a couple more weeks left in the winter semester, and once it’s done, for many students, it will also mark the end of their college or university journeys.
As a student, it’s exciting to think about all the great experiences and memories that you might have made over your time at Humber or UofGH. Although it might be daunting for those graduating, it can also be fun to think of all the new great adventures coming your way as you make your transition into the ‘real world’ to start your career that you’ve worked so hard to get to.
Before you reach the end, there’s a couple of things we think you need to take advantage of before you graduate. After all, if you don’t plan on ever returning to post-secondary education, these next couple of weeks might be your last chance!
So, with that in mind, here are five things to do before you graduate!
Attend an IGNITE event
This one is a no-brainer! Whether it’s a workshop, a contest or anything else hosted by IGNITE, before you graduate, make sure to attend at least one IGNITE event!
IGNITE events make for great ways to be involved in student life, learn new skills, meet new people and maybe even learn a little bit about yourself along the way. The best part is, they’re FREE, and there’s usually an opportunity to win fun prizes! For more information about upcoming events, check out our events page here on our website or stay tuned by following IGNITE on Instagram and Twitter @shareignite.
If you missed an event, don’t worry! You can rewatch many of them on our YouTube channel. Catch up on events like Real Talks interviews with guest stars like Terry Crews, Rainn Wilson, Tyler Oakley, watch Ignition Point episodes and even rewatch IGNITE virtual events like the International Student’s Guide to Money Management!

Network with your teachers and peers
This is a super important one. Ever heard the saying, “it’s not you, it’s who you know”? Well, it’s no joke. Nowadays, a large part of your job search revolves around who you know rather than who you are.
Making connections can be a great way to get your foot in the door in your new career. So, although it might be a little bit harder to do with virtual classes, creating connections with your teachers and peers is something everyone should be working toward before graduating.
If you’re new to networking, we’ve got you covered with a guide to get your networking game on point.
Take advantage of all the student deals
Student discounts are one of the great perks that come with being in school. They’re available almost everywhere, with many companies and events offering discount prices and deals for students. Often, the savings seem small and not worth the hassle, but when you’re on a budget, they’re definitely worth it in the long run.
Speaking of student deals! Right now, thanks to IGNITE and Humber IT, you can claim a FREE 1-year Headspace membership with your student email! Also, if you didn’t already know, as a Humber student, you can get a FREE Microsoft365 membership!
Don’t miss out on these deals and so many more while they’re still available to you. For more great places to look into for student deals, check out our roundup of eight places you didn’t know offered student discounts.
Get your grad pics taken
We know not everyone is a fan of having their picture taken but getting your grad pics done is a must.
Chances are the people who will look at these pictures most are your grandparents and parents, but one day when you’re looking back on the good old days, you’ll be happy to have the souvenir that commemorates the end of an important chapter in your life.
Congratulations, you did it! As a soon-to-be Humber or UofGH graduate, you’re about to join our group of leading Humber and UofGH grads.
Make sure you check out all the great benefits that come with being an alumni – get access to great deals and discounts, opportunities and make sure to keep in touch with all the great things happening here.
