Activities galore!

Have you ever explored the hidden wonders of Humber Polytechnic and the University of Guelph-Humber? It’s time to stop doomscrolling between classes and get to know your campus.

The natural beauty of Lakeshore includes its historic buildings, beautiful architecture and scenic natural environment, but those aren’t the only beautiful sights. Lakeshore (as well as the North campus) has pop up galleries placed around the school.

The next scheduled art exhibit is solely at the Lakeshore campus from Jan. 7 to Feb. 1 in the L building and also have a partnership with the 2026 DesignTO festival running between Jan. 23. and Feb. 1. Go find them and snap a picture!

There’s more in here than what you may see at first glance. The Linx Lounge is your home for a warm environment, including a plethora of pool tables for pick-up games and a variety of snacks and beverages with servers at the ready. All the right ingredients for an amazing hangout spot.

When students first make their way through Humber or the UofGH’s doors the first thing they hear about is the Humber Arboretum. And yes, the Arboretum is deserving of its praise and promotion with its stunning and long-lasting nature walks paired with educational history. Appreciating the charm the Arboretum has to offer is ingrained in Humber’s culture and with good reason.

Despite making the trek to this gorgeous oasis though, you may walk right by one of Humber’s liveliest areas without realizing it.

Humber’s Lakeshore campus is surrounded with historic buildings, but if you take a slightly deeper look or read any of the plaques proudly displayed, you’ll notice that these buildings were once used as a psychiatric hospital. Once you’ve heard that fact, these buildings take on new meaning and have more history than you could have imagined.

What some of you may not know is the hallowed halls underground have guided, or self guided tours to accompany them. Make your way down to the ominous underground hallways and experience the history and transformation of a once spooky place.

You think you’ve got that inner artist in you? Well, this might be your chance to show it to the world — or at least the student body.

Located in the new Cultural Hub at the Lakeshore campus is a public piano where anyone can sit down and play. Public pianos are a way to bring communities together and are often called “smile generators.”

Next time you have a break between your classes, stop by and take your shot. You might even catch someone putting on a superb performance and maybe even make new friends!

Idea Lab (Lakeshore & North)

Your one-stop shop for all things hobbies. Both campuses house this hub for creativity. Although it requires booking ahead of time, this place is worth the wait, or should I say planning. Students often view the idea lab as only a space to work on their projects, but the space is so much more.

Best of all, it’s covered under your tuition. Below is a list of cool tools at your disposal.

  • 3D printers
  • Laser and vinyl cutters
  • Sewing and embroidery machines
  • Heat presses
  • Audio recording studios
  • Video and photography studios

Don’t limit yourself. A 3D printer isn’t just for those engineering students. Build something cool just for yourself. Try out sewing and embroidery. Audio, video and photography have endless possibilities to explore. Starting a podcast? Want to mimic being a fashionista? Or just want to dabble and try something new? The idea lab has it all.

Get out there, try something new and give in to your curiosities. You’ll never know what amazing memories await you right here on campus. Humber and the UofGH have a whole world of activities and experiences at the ready. Use them to the fullest and make new friends in the process.
