IGNITE asks students how they’re spending their winter break

Winter Break? More like Netflix & Naps

It’s that time of year again. Midterms and exams have been wearing us out, and we’re ready to sleep for the next two weeks.

This year is a bit different than usual because of the strike. You’re probably trying to catch up on coursework or internship applications after the 5 week hiatus and are likely feeling pretty burnt out. That’s why it’s more important than ever to take advantage of your shortened break to relax and get ready for 2018.

We took a break from all the studying and decided to ask students at Humber and UofGH what’s on their winter bucket list (aside from schoolwork). Here’s what they had to say about their holiday plans:

Boy nodding off at classroom desk

Adam – Sports Management, North

“Is ‘nothing’ an appropriate answer? That and lots of eating and sleeping.”

Joey – Creative Advertising, Lakeshore

“This year I’m hoping for coal in my stocking so I can heat up my house without paying hydro.”

Teja – Electronics Engineering, North

“Going to Boston and going to a party with my cousins.”

Two people in holiday sweaters jump around and ecstatically exchange gifts

Elora – Police Foundations, Lakeshore

“Going to The Distillery District Christmas Market.”

Laura – Early Childhood Studies, Guelph-Humber

“I’m going to be organizing my room.”

“Hopefully going to Alberta.”

Monica – Tourism-Travel Services Management, North

“Spending the holidays with my family.”

Sebastian – Acting for Film and Television, Lakeshore

“Staying in the city, and hanging with friends if they’re staying in the city too.”

People dancing and clapping with a lit Christmas tree in the background

Gloria – Cosmetic Management, North

“Chill with family and hopefully go to New York!”

Francesca – Early Childhood Studies, Guelph-Humber

“I’m not really doing anything, so I’m going to be sleeping and celebrating my birthday.”

Aaron – Acting for Film and Television, Lakeshore

“Flying to Nova Scotia and hanging out with family.”

TV character Fry from cartoon show Futurama casually blows air through a New Year party prop

Joseph – Sports Management, North

“Working and stressing my life away.”

Amanda – Early Childhood Studies, Guelph-Humber

“Pretty much just relaxing or spending time with family.”

Alexa – Business Management, North

“Working a lot because of the strike.”
