What Lakeshore students are saying about the upcoming IGNITE elections

by Ally Buso | February 6, 2019

Students are talking about elections, here’s what they’re saying.

IGNITE elections are right around the corner. Nominations have just closed on Feb. 2nd and very soon, candidates will begin promoting their campaigns. We wanted to hear from students about what they want to see from those running this year. What issues are they concerned with? What changes are they looking for on campus?

I chatted with students at Lakeshore to see what they are saying:

What changes would you like this year’s IGNITE candidates to address in their election campaigns?

“I’m excited to find out more about the students who are running. They could take over social media for a day if it’s not too many people. Maybe the presidents who are running or the VP’s. I think a takeover would be good so we can learn more about them.”

What changes would you like this year’s IGNITE candidates to address in their election campaigns?

“Maybe some more food options, more healthy food. Honestly, I don’t know if I can’t think of anything. It’s a pretty solid campus.”

What changes would you like this year’s IGNITE candidates to address in their election campaigns?

“Sometimes it can be hard to build friendships because a lot of us go to and from class and then head home. Maybe hosting more social events on campus would help students like myself!”

What changes would you like this year’s IGNITE candidates to address in their election campaigns?

“Frankly speaking, I really love this campus, I really recommend my friends to come here. But you know the thing which I really don’t like is sometimes we have to come early for our class. In three semesters I have had classes at 8 a.m. So I don’t like that part, but the rest of the things (at Humber) are good, I don’t want any changes!”

What changes would you like this year’s IGNITE candidates to address in their election campaigns?

“Healthier food options and more vegetarian options. It’s hard for me to eat here sometimes because there aren’t enough diverse options. There’s really only veggie burgers and salads.”

What changes would you like this year’s IGNITE candidates to address in their election campaigns?

“Probably the food options as well. There’s only one cafeteria here and one in the F building. We don’t have many options here. We do have more options in the residence building, but it’s really far, especially in the winter. I would also like more printers. Sometimes if the colour printer isn’t working (in the L building) we have to walk all the way to the library on the other side of campus.”
