I’ll always remember my first day in university.
The anticipation built as I waited in what seemed like an endless line leading to my residence. It was a sweltering hot day, well above 30 degrees, the type of heat that could not be quenched no matter how many complementary freezies I ate.
I said my goodbyes to my family and my mom was able to hold back the tears while she was on campus, but rumour has it that wasn’t the case on the ride home. I quickly became acquainted with my floor-mates and we were off to the races wandering around the campus that I would call home for the next four years.
Beginning a new adventure at a new school can be an interesting experience, so we decided to talk to some Humber & Guelph-Humber students to get the scoop on their first day on campus.
Here’s what they said:
Anna, 23 , Journalism (Post-Graduate), Humber College
“A big change from my last school, it’s a big campus with lots going on, lots of things to do, a lot of people to meet. In my town in Newfoundland there is only one Tim Hortons, and there are a lot more than that here on campus so i’m liking that.”
Ivan, 18, General Arts & Sciences, Humber College
“It’s very different from high school, there are a lot of people, it’s a very up to date modern school, definitely a good looking campus.”
David, 21, Business Administration, Humber College
“So far its been really amazing. The ice cream is really good! It had like cinnamon cake in it i think… I feel like even if you aren’t a dessert person you’ll like it.”
Alex, Early Childhood Studies, Guelph-Humber
“There’s a bike in my classroom if you want to burn some calories and there are pillows to sit on if you want to relax, it’s really cool and good to see that everyone seems to really be into sharing ideas.”
Charlotte, 17, Architectural Technology, Humber College
“I only had one class so not a lot of pressure yet, the profs seem nice and helpful. Everyone else in my program is new too so they don’t know where they’re going either, we’re all having the same feelings.”
Tim, 24, Supply Chain Management, Humber College
“I’ve been lost a few times today, but at least I found the food trucks.”
Matthew, 18, Sports Management, Humber College
“I got lost a little bit, it got entertaining [laughs], I wasn’t expecting there to be like 200 people in my Sports Perspectives class.”
