Is school weighing you down? Looking for a little fun?

If you’re looking to ease the stress of the semester, board games may be the answer! It’s been scientifically proven that you can relieve your stress by simply playing a board game. If you’re having trouble finding someone to kick back with, come check out the Board Game club at Lakeshore campus!

For club president Raymond Lu, board games are more than just a way to relax. They present an excellent opportunity to meet new people. “We wanted to gather like-minded people in a single place for them to play. So it was sort of like a social spot,” Raymond explains.

Longtime club member Stefano Domenico agrees and feels the club has forged new friendships by bringing together people through the common interest of some pretty cool games, ranging from Settlers of Catan, Legends of the 3 Kingdoms and Munchkins: a club favourite!

Beginner level board games usually win over more complicated games like Dungeons and Dragons, which have been confusing and too long for some. Previous club president Azhar Ahmed says, “If you are trying to be a hard-core board gamer you will start with games like Settlers of Catan, which have simpler playing styles and have similar features to Dungeons and Dragons, except the roles are very condensed and easier to understand.”

Board game novices have nothing to fear: as president, Raymond wanted to show more people how to play games, what to bring in and what to do. Don’t be afraid to stop by if you’re interested in playing but not sure what to do – there are a ton of supportive people to help you learn.

Apart from their weekly meet-ups, the club is also big on social events, which include karaoke nights, playing N64 video games and most recently, an outing to an escape room.

The club meets every Wednesday between 5 p.m.-9 p.m. in room C112. If you’re interested or want more information, you can contact the Board Game clubs executive team at
