4 reasons to see Van Lathan at Real Talks
by IGNITE | January 30, 2019

Fight for what’s right.

IGNITE Real Talks is back, and we want you to come on out! On Feb. 7, Van Lathan will be hanging out with us in the North Student Centre. Oh, and did we mention Matte Babel will be hosting?

Here are four reasons you HAVE to be there:

1. He fights for equality

Being equal in status, rights and opportunities are so important in today’s society. Lathan consistently pushes for this. Regardless of your social status, race, job, etc, we are ALL equal. We need voices like his that can reach large audiences to push for this message.

IGNITE could not be more honoured and excited to have Lathan speak about this message to the Humber and University of Guelph-Humber community.

2. He stands up for his beliefs

It can sometimes feel difficult for us to stand up for what we believe in. Van Lathan is someone who does this and found success in doing so. It is empowering to see someone stand up and speak about what they feel strongly about, and everyone should be encouraged to do so.

3. We can learn something from his success

Not only is he a reporter in the TMZ Newsroom, but he’s also an avid podcast host, essayer, and screenwriter. Talk about werkin that grind! We can really learn something as to how he found his multi-media success. Working at a variety of different projects also requires incredible time management skills— and as students, we could totally use some of that advice!

4. Treat yoself!

Midterms will be here before you know it. Take some time to do something nice for yourself with friends before the semester gets hectic. It is SO important to take breaks and do fun things that make us happy. Life is all about balance. Not only will it be fun, but you’re sure to take something valuable away from this Real Talk!

We totally want to see you there. Wristbands will be given to the first 50 people that show-up to meet Lathan himself! Don’t forget to grab your ticket.
