April Street Styles

by Alena Blanes

Who says you can’t be comfortable and stylish?

With April off to a chilly start and final exam season in full swing, styling the perfect outfit can be a challenge. Despite the stress of last-minute study sessions, and impending due dates, Humber and Guelph-Humber students are effortlessly serving looks on campus.

From the classic leather jacket to chunky sneakers, here are our favourite outfits we caught on campus this month!

What are your top 3 fashion essentials for summer?

“Probably my Vans, a cool pair of sunglasses, and jean shorts.”

Where do you get your style inspiration from?

“I actually don’t normally dress this casual, but I do get a lot of my inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest.”

What were you thinking when you threw on your outfit this morning?

“I came to school to study and do some work so I wanted to be comfortable. Since it was still a bit cold, I added the hat.”

“Instagram. I’m really into what gets featured on HYPEBEAST and so I get a lot of my outfit inspiration from there.”

Where do you normally shop?

“I thrift most of my stuff, to be honest. Like I got these shoes for only $10.00!”

What are your top 3 essentials for summer?

“Definitely working with layers. The more layers you have, the more there is to look at. In the summer, there’s not too much to work with so I really like half-sleeve shirts. As for shoes, I choose whatever looks good. I’m not really a brand name person or anything. I like bracelets, watches, and rings, but I don’t really wear necklaces.”

What inspires your style?

“I don’t really have a specific person I look up to. I get a lot of stuff from Forever 21 since they have relatively cheap stuff that doesn’t look as mediocre as other stores. I do most of my shopping online to be quite honest. There is a store called Rose Wholesale. They don’t carry a lot of stuff, but they do have unique things like jeans with pleather accents or ripped styles. I find that in Canadian malls, most of the styles for guys are pretty bland and are the same from store to store. That’s why I don’t really ever shop in malls, I’m always getting stuff delivered.”

What were you thinking when you threw on your outfit this morning?

“I use this process of ‘What haven’t I worn in a while?’ I like to keep it different and not wear the same thing all the time. I also just tend to gravitate to nude-toned clothing, so browns, fleshy pinks, stuff like that. Today, I pulled out this sweater and paired it with grey and black since they go with everything. And to be honest, these are my only clean pair of jeans.”

What are your top 3 essentials for summer?

“I wear black almost exclusively so I base my outfits around it. For the summer, my top essentials would have to be this pair of black platform sandals that I wear constantly, black high-waisted shorts, and a black crop top. I love crop tops, they’re super fun!”

What’s your style like and where do you get your inspiration from?

“Mostly Instagram. I follow a lot of really cool fashion people on there. But I also love Forever 21 and H&M since they have some really fantastic and affordable styles. Vintage and thrift shops around my hometown are great too. I got this shirt from a vintage store and same with the boots  it’s just fun to have something you know nobody else is going to be wearing! It’s eclectic and you can find one-of-a-kind pieces to incorporate into your everyday outfits.

What were you thinking when you threw on your outfit this morning?

“It’s normal to wear a lot of black in my program, but today I decided to incorporate a little bit of colour and pattern into my outfit to be a little bit razzle-dazzle for my presentation.”

How would you describe your style?

“I feel like my style is kind of boring, but I really like neutrals!”

Where do you do most of your shopping?

“Zara, but I only go when there are sales. That is the only time I will ever go there.”

Where do you take your style inspiration from?

“Definitely Instagram!”

What were you thinking when you threw on your outfit this morning?
