5 ways to treat yourself after finals

by Gemma Mastroianni

Chillax to the max.

Finals time comes with so much more than exams themselves. Once all tests and projects are said and done, we tend to get left with a strange feeling. We’re so used to always having one assignment or exam to study for, then all of a sudden, nothing. What are we supposed to do now? Drop those books, it’s time to unwind and hit reset before starting a new semester.

Here are 5 ways to get out and treat yourself after finals:

1. Skate underneath the Gardiner Expressway

The Gardiner Expressway with CN Tower

That’s right, there’s another cool place to skate in Toronto aside from Nathan Phillips Square. Get your closest pals and go skating at The Bentway, the newest skate trail in Toronto. It opens up Dec. 21 at noon. Skate rentals AND lessons will be available on site. If that’s not enough, a winter lounge with tons of food and drink, blankets, and firepits will keep you full and happy all evening long.

The attraction is only open until Dec. 23, so be sure to stop by with your friends for a good time.

2. Snap some photos in the Sparkling Tunnel of Glitter

You’re probably thinking, what even is that? For the month of December, a tunnel made of 14 million sequins has been set up at Yonge and St.Clair, located at 1501 Yonge St. It was put together by a local art collective by the name of Studio F Minus. The 80-foot tunnel is open every day in December from 7 a.m until 11 p.m. Be sure to support local, stop by, and enjoy the magic.

3. Kick back at the spa

Everyone deserves to be pampered in life, especially after exams. Find a spa that fits into your budget and put those cucumbers on your eyes. Treat yourself to a facial, massage, mani/pedi – whatever you’re feeling! Let those anxieties and nerves peace out for a while, and start your break on the right (pedicured) foot.

Since the holidays are just around the corner, all of us students are a bit low on funds. Check out our top picks for affordable spas in the city.

4. Get into the Christmas spirit at the Toronto Christmas Market

Experience a whole world at the Toronto Christmas Market. The Distillery District is entirely transformed into the Christmas dream with holiday eats, treats, drinks, and plenty of entertainment. Admission is free aside from after 5 p.m. on Friday’s and throughout the weekend, which is $6. The market runs until Dec. 23.

Get your tickets ahead of time here.

5. Chill at home

Legs on couch next to book and cup of coffee

“Sweatpants, hair tied, chillin’ with no make-up on.” Does that not sound SO comforting without the pressure of school? Treat yourself to a night in by yourself, or with friends. Sit back on the couch, enjoy some Netflix, put on a face mask, and have your favourite snacks. You deserve it!
